The St Mary's RE Syllabus

As a maintained, local authority school, St Mary's follows the agreed syllabus for Leeds, Kirklees and Calderdale - Believing and Belonging.   This curriculum introduces children to a variety of different world views held by people of all faiths and none.  It encourages pupils to reflect on and express their own ideas about topics such as God, creation, special places and celebrations.

As a Church of England school, St Mary's introduces children to the Big Bible Story through the Understanding Christianity resources.  These resources enable  children to learn about and reflect on how Christians view the world and how Christians use their learning about Jesus to influence and shape how they live their lives.

Collective Worship

Under the 1998 School Standards Framework Act, every child has an entitlement to a daily act of collective worship.  At St Mary's our collective worship is programmed around our 12 Christian Values and children are invited to reflect upon stories from the Bible and draw inspriation for living their lives with love, respect and moral understanding.
