Art at St Mary's

We very much believe that Art is an important part of the curriculum at St. Mary's. Through visual, tactile and sensory experiences, Art gives children a  special way of understanding and responding to the world around them. It enables children of all abilities to communicate what they see, feel and think through the use of colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials and processes. We aim to develop the key skills of drawing, sketching, shading, painting and sculpture in order to encourage creativity and engage, inspire and challenge pupils to invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.

Design and Technology at St. Mary's is an inspiring and practical subject. We encourage our children to learn to think and intervene creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team. Children use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts.   Through the DT curriculum children are inspired by engineers, designers, chefs and architects to enable them to create a range of structures, mechanisms, textiles and food products with a real life purpose. We encourage our children to reflect on and evaluate the products they create.
