How do 'British Values' connect with the Vision and Ethos of St Mary's Primary School?

What are the British Values?

In 2014 the Department for Education published guidance for maintained schools on promoting British Values as part of the curriculum.  The guidance states:

'All (maintained schools) have a duty to ‘ctively promotethe fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.'

Pupils at St Mary's study democracy and the rule of law through the PHSE curriculum and they have opportunitie to put this into practice through the work of the School Council.

In the 'Vision for Education 2016' the Church of England has articulated the importance of, 'deep respect for the integrity of other traditions and beliefs, and for the religious freedom of each person.'  At St Mary's we develop this respect through our curriculums for RE and PHSE. Our own St Mary's Vision states, 'We value and encourage difference and diversity'.  More detail on how we do this will be available soon in our equalities statement.
